The project offered a comprehensive and innovative approach to the delivery of WASH services to rural communities in four Districts. It addressed multiple needs within the communities, identified through the initial needs assessment, by adopting practical new solutions adapted to the rural settings. The purpose was to introduce an operational model that local institutions could utilise long after the intervention had ended, thereby offering a sustainable solution to the problem of lack of access to clean water in the rural communities. The promotion of water treatment at the household level and low-cost maintenance systems together with the development of reliable supply chains for spare parts and chlorine contributed to broaden the offer of services needed by the vulnerable and secluded communities to maintain the extended coverage of WASH services.
