Handicap International focused on strengthening preparedness and management of trauma care including early rehabilitation care to minimise the risk of secondary complications or permanent impairment; or at least supported newly disabled people to regain independency. 289 people received rehabilitation care. 245 were fully discharged, after they reached the objectives agreed with their physiotherapist. 15 health structures were equipped and supported with training for 236 staff. From October 2015, Handicap International had to limit its intervention to the Ukrainian Government controlled areas. The 109 people that had been assisted in the non-government controlled areas could not complete their rehabilitation cycle due to the expulsion of international organisations that had refused to acknowledge the independence of the secessionist movement.
Staff of Handicap International perform regular home visits to assess the situation of patients who are not able to visit a health centre, thereby enabling them to rehabilitate at home.
