In rural Haiti medical services are very limited, often difficult to reach and in case of serious illness, the poor infrastructure hinders the long distance transport. The Foundation Suisse-Santé-Haiti, has taken over 2 health centres from the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in 2010. After renovating and the training of staff the health centres are managed by the Foundation. The 2 health centres attend to the rural population of approx. 50 000 persons. General medical support, family planning services, nutritional monitoring of children aged 1 to 5, vaccinations, HIV-AIDS tests and ARV treatment are offered. Additionally, 10 health agents conduct house visits and thereby support 20 000 families in more remote areas. In 2014, a maternity ward at the health centre in Plassac was constructed where about 300 safe deliveries take place annually.

Before having a consultation at the health centre in Valheureux, blood pressure and the temperature of the patient are measured.
