Vocational agricultural training for vulnerable youth after basic education or for drop-outs was offered. 200 young adults (93 male, 107 female) completed training at a vocational training institute. The courses included poultry, piggery, horticulture and apiary and are officially recognized. Another batch of 100 young people with little literacy and numeracy skills completed an apprenticeship with local resource personnel who were trained for this. Start-up kits including building and construction materials, assorted veterinary drugs, farm tools, seeds, bee keeping and harvesting equipment and livestock were provided to the majority of the young people. 82% (248 young adults) earned additional income from their enterprises, resulting from the sale of the additional produce. The improved income led to better nutrition status of the households.
During their apprenticeship with a local farmer, two young farmer students learn how to grow tomatoes and how to market them.
