Provide Shelter Assistance to Syrian Refugees

Sector Emergency Relief
Country Lebanon
Location Bekaa Valley
Beneficiaries 1 633 individuals
Duration 1 year (2018)
Organisation Medair, Ecublens

Syrian refugees and vulnerable Lebanese families lived in ruins and in informal settlements in the Bekaa Valley. Medair supported families in improving their housing conditions. On the one hand, kits were distributed so that refugees could repair their accommodation themselves. On the other hand, structural adaptations were made for older or disabled people with mobility and/or visual problems. For example, Medair provided ramps on public buildings to allow easy access. In addition, Medair installed and provided fire extinguishers in the densely populated settlements so that they could respond quickly in the event of a fire. Good implementation of the projects was possible thanks to the close cooperation between the various organisations active in the area.

In the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon, Syrian refugees are receiving support from Medair to improve their housing situation such as the construction materials for Amira’s family shown here.
