In the Northern Dry Corridor, INTERTEAM works together with local organisations to improve food security, adapt to climate change and create economic prospects for farming families. To this end, seed banks with locally adapted varieties have been established and a value chain for red beans (a staple food) has been developed. This led to higher incomes for the families. They also received training in improved management and production of cattle and poultry farming. Despite the socio-political crisis, 2042 families were able to improve their food security: At the end of 2018, the families supported had an average intake of 3 722 calories per person per day. This equated to an increased calories intake of around 30% since the start of the project.
Ivan Antonio Perez Espinoza was trained in selection of good quality plant seeds that are better adapted to the climatic conditions in his area.
