The majority of the population in the project region do not complete primary school education. AfriKids focused on improving primary education in 60 schools. To raise awareness of quality education, the project worked with village leaders, parents, authorities and schools. Parent-teacher associations were strengthened and classrooms were made child-friendly. In addition, teachers received further training in more student-centred teaching, which led to better learning outcomes. There has been a significant change in the attitude of parents towards supporting their children. Dropout rates decreased while transfer rates increased. The Ministry of Education has committed itself to increasing funding for the ongoing training of teachers and the redesign of teaching methods.

By changing the seating arrangement and refurbishing the classrooms the learning environment will be considerably improved. Here, small learning groups enable more active learning and motivate the children.
