Increase Access to Kindergarten

Pre-school education in Kosovo has been supported by the Medicor Foundation since 2008. Initially on refurbishing and equipping classrooms and on in-service training for carers to become certified kindergarten teachers. Caritas Schweiz gradually insisted that municipalities pay for educators’ salaries, running costs and maintenance of the facilities. Later the official training of kindergarten staff was taken over by teacher training colleges. The project provided expertise to jointly develop the training manual that is now used at the colleges. Caritas Schweiz contributed essentially towards the Advisory Committee for Early Childhood Education established in 2021 and chaired by the Ministry of Education. In 2022 the project has come to a successful end with pre-school education being well embedded in the Kosovo National Education System.
