Pakhulani is located close to the conflict border of Abkhazia. Besides the local population, a large number of internally displaced people put additional pressure on the local infrastructure which in most cases is outdated or destroyed due to armed conflicts, economic crisis and the lack of proper care from the Government over a long period of time. In close cooperation with the Municipality a new health centre was constructed on a municipality owned plot located in the centre of Pakhulani adjacent to the village administration building, public school and kindergarten. The health centre provides different services such as consultations including home visits, post and ante-natal services, monitoring child health and emergency services for the community. After the construction the running costs as well as the staff’s salaries are covered by the local municipality.
This new building has replaced the old, dilapidated outpatient clinic. Here, the family doctor and the community nurse can care for their patients from the nearby surroundings under considerably better working conditions. © Community and Environment
