In Burkina Faso, children with a disability are one of the largest groups out of school. They are excluded from the education system due to social beliefs, physical and pedagogical barriers. In order to include them in the education system, LfW launched its education programme “One Class for All”. In the project area, more than 1 000 children out of school living with a physical disability or a mental health condition were identified. Their families and communities were taught ways to support their inclusion, development and education, as well as to overcome misbeliefs. 450 teachers learned to apply inclusive pedagogical practices in their classes promoting an inclusive education culture that allows all children to learn together. To facilitate accessibility to the schools, assistive devices were made available to pupils with a physical impairment.
